Air Berlin Technik is providing line maintenance for Emirates' Airbus A380s in Munich.

The maintenance company has been supporting the Gulf carrier's Boeing 777s, Airbus A330s and A340s in the Bavarian capital for some time and expanded its capabilities when Emirates decided to deploy the double-deck aircraft on the route.

Two technicians have been qualified to conduct the transit check on the A380 but more technicians will be trained, said an Air Berlin spokesman.

The airline's technical division employs approximately 170 staff members in Munich.

It operates out of a 12,000m² (129,000ft²) hangar, which can accommodate three widebody aircraft. With a clear height of 24m (79ft), however, the facility is not tall enough to house the A380 in the case of unscheduled maintenance requirements.

Emirates has been deploying the aircraft on one of its two daily nonstop flights between Dubai and Munich since 25 November.
