India’s Air Sahara has set 6 January as the launch date for services to London Heathrow airport.

The privately owned carrier has been working for months on London Heathrow plans but they have been delayed in part due to aircraft lease issues. It said in June that it had agreed to lease two Boeing 777-200ERs for London services but in October said it had instead decided to launch with a Boeing 767 leased from an unidentified party.

Air Sahara says now London flights will be operated four times per week from Delhi, starting on 6 January. A 767-300ER in a four-class configuration seating 193 passengers will be used and the aircraft will have personal televisions at every seat.

The carrier has an extensive domestic network but only launched international services early last year after the Indian Government lifted a restriction that had barred it and fellow private carrier Jet Airways from operating outside of the country.

Air Sahara now serves the Sri Lankan capital Colombo, the Nepalese capital Kathmandu as well as Singapore.
