On-demand air taxi company DayJet launched operations on 3 October with its initial service based around the five Florida-based "DayPorts" - namely Pensacola, Tallahassee, Lakeland, Gainesville and Boca Raton, home to DayJet.
The company has received 12 Eclipse 500 very light jets so far out of an order for 1,000 and says it will add extra DayPorts in Florida and in locations across the south east, including Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
"We plan to grow our fleet to 30 jets by year's end and within two years its will exceed 300 aircraft," the company says.
Three Eclipses are now making DayJet revenue flights, while five are used for training and the remaining in-service aircraft are cycled through maintenance and stand-by. Repairs are also tracked by software. Dependence on computers leaves paperwork out entirely, says DayJet president Ed Iacobucci.
DayJet expects to take delivery of eight more Eclipses later this month with Avio NG integrated cockpits installed. The current fleet should be retrofitted by the end of the year, Iacobucci says.
