Airbus achieved net orders for 574 aircraft in 2010, against rival Boeing's figure of 530. It also delivered a total of 510 jets over the course of the year.

Airbus detailed its performance during an event at its Toulouse headquarters today. The airframer posted gross sales of 644 aircraft.

Airbus' gross sales comprised 452 A320-family jets, along with 160 A330s, A340s and A350s.

It also sold a total of 32 of its ultra-large A380 double-deck aircraft. But the manufacturer recorded 70 cancellations during 2010.

Airbus' deliveries last year overtook its previous record of 498 set in 2009.

Its delivery total included 401 A320s, 91 A330/A340s and 18 A380s - the A380 deliveries having fallen short of a forecast 20-plus figure in the fallout from November's Qantas incident.

Boeing delivered 462 aircraft in 2010.
