Airbus will implement a digital design and engineering platform from Dassault Systemes, to transform the way aircraft are being manufactured and operated. The move aims to "lay the foundation for a new European industrial ecosystem in aviation".
The airframer has signed a five-year memorandum of agreement to implement Dassault Systemes' "3DExperience" platform to facilitate "collaborative 3D design, engineering, manufacturing, simulation and intelligence applications".
The package will deliver "digital continuity, from design to operations, in a single data model for a unified user experience… and paves the way for breakthroughs in new product design, operational performance, support and maintenance", Airbus says.
"We are not just talking about digitalisation or a 3D experience; we are rethinking the way aircraft are designed and operated," explains Airbus commercial aircraft president Guillaume Faury.
He says: "[Digital design, manufacturing and services are] a catalyst for change and with it we are building a new model for the European aerospace industry. Our target is a robust production set-up that offers a reduction in product development lead time."
