Airbus has selected Hamilton Sundstrand to provide the electric power generation system for the Airbus A350 XWB family.

United Technologies subsidiary Hamilton Sundstrand estimates that the selection will generate approximately $1 billion in revenues over the life of the programme.

Hamilton Sundstrand Electric Systems VP and general manager Clif Jacobs says: “We are committed to supporting the fuel efficiency and other operational initiatives of this aircraft through our advanced variable frequency technologies and more than 60 years of experience in aircraft electric power generation.”

The A350 XWB electric power generation system comprises four variable frequency generators and four generator control units.

Hamilton Sundstrand will design the system at its Rockford facility. It says it will be manufactured at sites including Rockford and Phoenix in the USA, Puerto Rico and Singapore.
