Lufthansa Technik has introduced a leasing service for cabin interior equipment.

The German maintenance specialist says seats will be the first equipment category that will be available for lease, with galleys and lavatories planned to follow at the end of the year.

LHT is co-operating with seat manufacturer Zim Flugsitz and leasing firm CHG-Meridian for the service.

Leasing interior equipment could be avenue for airlines to "quickly and easily" upgrade their aircraft’s cabins, says the MRO provider.

"The purchase of a complete aircraft cabin would be a major financial burden, especially for operators of aircraft that are leased for a relatively short period of time," states head of product cabin modification Georg Stoffelen.

Additionally, he believes, leasing interior equipment could be a "simple solution for airlines that merely want to modernise their cabin layouts at shorter intervals".

A three-month lead time is expected for customers to order equipment, while the installation is to take two days per aircraft.

LHT says it will complete modifications at "any location" within a network and provide "all the necessary material".

Services will include financing, procurement, engineering, material supply, and installation of new equipment, as well as the storage of old furnishings in case leased aircraft need to be returned to their owners with their original interior.
