Wizz Air has placed an order for 110 shipsets of the Geven Essenza economy-class seat to outfit the Airbus A321neos it is scheduled to begin receiving in January 2019. It is the largest seat order placed by the airline, and largest single order ever received by Geven.

“We’ve been working with Geven for over a decade and this seat not only benefits us financially – through its lower weight and reduced environmental footprint – it also gives us the passenger 25% more knee room and better ergonomics,” says Johan Eidhagen, Wizz Air’s chief marketing officer. “It will also enable quicker disembarking, creating improved aircraft turnaround. That means lower costs for us and a lower fare for the passenger.”

Wizz Air’s A321ceos are configured with 230 Geven Puma seats, which are each 2.5 kg heavier than the Essenza. Although the A321neo seat count has not yet been confirmed, Eidhagen says: “Even if the full certified capacity of 240 seats is used, each passenger will have more living space”.

Alberto Veneruso, managing director of Geven, says that Wizz Air gave his team many ideas in the areas of comfort and maintainability. “Their input for the development of the Essenza was excellent,” he says.
