Alitalia has finalised its agreement with Embraer, under which it will take delivery of 15 E-175 and five E-190 regional jets.

The Italian carrier will lease the aircraft through an agreement to be arranged by third parties.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year.

Alitalia plans to base the aircraft at Rome Fiumicino, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Turin, Venice, Naples and Catania. It will deploy the regional jets on domestic and European routes.

Alitalia announced in December that it planned to renew its regional jet fleet with Embraer aircraft, dealing a blow to Sukhoi which had been expecting an order for Superjet 100s from the carrier.
