All Nippon Airways' (ANA) four pilot unions have threatened to go on strike tomorrow, a move which could force the airline to cancel or delay over 200 domestic flights.

The pilots, who are reportedly seeking better pay and working conditions, plan to go on a 24-hour strike starting at 00:00hr tomorrow, says the Star Alliance carrier.

It is continuing "urgent negotiations" with the unions to avert the strike, but ANA says it could cancel at least 168 domestic flights and delay another 35 as a result of the industrial action.

No international flights will be affected, says the carrier.

"We are very disappointed that our four pilots unions have threatened to take strike action. This action is unnecessary and will prove disruptive," says an ANA spokesman.

The carrier adds that it has put forward a "fair set of proposals" in its year-end talks with the unions. "ANA Group will continue urgent negotiations with the unions to avert a strike," adds the airline.
