Air New Zealand (ANZ) plans to start a non-stop service between Sydney and Rarotonga in the Cook Islands from July 2010.

The service will be operated once a week on a Boeing 767-300 for a trial period of four months, says the airline.

"We already carry a large number of passengers between Australia and the Cook Islands via Auckland," says ANZ general manager Tasman Pacific Airline Glen Sowry.

"The introduction of direct services will provide a valuable boost to the Cook Islands community and with the support of the Cooks Islands Government and Cook Islands Tourism we will be working hard to make this trial a success," he adds.

ANZ will be the only airline operating on the route, according to Innovata.
