Armavia has missed the planned handover date for taking the first Sukhoi Superjet 100, although it has signed a technical acceptance agreement for the aircraft.

It was intending to take the twinjet - aircraft 95007, named after cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin - for operations on 12 April, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's first voyage into space.

But the handover was pushed back at least a week. Sukhoi says the Superjet has completed ground and flight tests and is "technically sound" and is ready for "immediate implementation of commercial flights".

Armavia representative Gagik Sarkisyan says, however: "There are minor technical issues and acceptance-related paperwork that remain to be tackled. But we still intend to receive the aircraft before May."
