Lockheed Martin and US-based firm Marvin Engineering have signed a memorandum of understanding with Australian company Ferra Engineering to make parts for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

Minister for defence personnel, materiel and science Greg Combet says Brisbane-based Ferra "has been selected as the primary source to manufacture and assemble additional weapon adaptor assembly components for the JSF".

Australia late last year approved plans to order its first batch of 14 conventional take-off and landing F-35As from a projected fleet of 100 of the aircraft.
