LaserMotive (booth 4749) has teamed with Lockheed Martin (booth 1657) to demonstrate laser recharging of a small battery-powered UAV under real-world circumstances. Under Phase 2 of testing, the aircraft has flown six times in open air, during a relatively wide range of temperatures and situations, including day/night and windy conditions.

Phase 3 will involve replicating the 48h wind tunnel tests, and Phase 4 would involve "a much longer duration".

The company modified Lockheed's Stalker UAV with a 14-square-inch photovoltaic receiver and power management circuitry.
