Chile's defence ministry is expected to soon announce the winner of a competition to supply mini unmanned air systems, after narrowing its options to the BlueBird SpyLite and Elbit Systems' Skylark 1LE.

To be worth around $3 million, the initial order will cover the provision of six systems, each consisting of one ground control station and three UAS, which will be operated by the nation's army.

Industry sources say the first order will be followed by Santiago's acquisition of a "great number" of additional systems.
