Boeing and China Airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the development of the Taiwanese carrier's capabilities to service Boeing products.

In a statement, Boeing says it will provide technical support and maintenance training to China Airlines to raise its ability to service Boeing products. It will also work with the carrier to qualify it as an approved Boeing supplier, to enable it to bid for work on Boeing's products and services.

The manufacturer also aims to help China Airlines' qualification as a potential Boeing converted freighter conversion site, and to explore training opportunities to develop the SkyTeam carrier's capability as an airframe modification supplier for its aircraft.

China Airlines' engineering and maintenance arm largely deals with aircraft maintenance on Boeing and Airbus jets, as well as engine repair and overhauls.
