Boeing is building a flight simulator centre in Moscow in partnership with Russian safety equipment specialist Transas.
The pilot and maintenance staff training campus – which is to initially include one full-flight simulator for the 777 and three for the current-generation 737s – is due to open in 2015. It will be built in the Skolkovo Innovation Centre, a technology business park on the western outskirts of the Russian capital. Construction is due to begin in the spring of 2014.
Half of the simulators will be manufactured by St Petersburg-headquartered Transas, a subsidiary of Russia’s Industrial Investors Group, which specialises in the production of aviation and marine equipment, including flight simulators and unmanned vehicles.
Initial capabilities of the "training and research campus" will cover flight, maintenance, and speciality training, says Boeing.
The facility could be expanded to include additional training devices in future.
Boeing forecasts that Russia will require 15,200 new commercial airline pilots and 18,000 maintenance technicians by 2032, as operators there are expected to order 1,530 commercial aircraft over the next two decades.
