Boeing celebrated the launch of an advanced flight-dispatch web tool with its inaugural customer Flexjet at the NBAA show today.

Dispatch is the latest mobile digital application from ForeFlight, a software developer that Boeing acquired earlier this year. The tool has been developed in conjunction with Flexjet, which says it “dramatically improves the flight planning process and creates cutting-edge technology for both the dispatchers and the pilots”.

The system uses 30-40,000 data points from 500 aircraft types and variants to enable very accurate flight planning in multiple operational scenarios.

Tyson Weihs, chief executive and co-founder of ForeFlight, says Boeing's purchase of the company provided the opportunity to develop the Dispatch tool. “This is the first cloud-based dispatch tool, enabling it to use a super-computer,” he says.

The tool is offered on aircraft ranging from the Cessna 172 to the Boeing BBJ, adds Weihs.

“For the past year, we have beta-tested the Dispatch software with our Global fleet, which operate all over the world,” says Tim Montie, director of operations at Flexjet. “The efficiencies that we have realised with optimised flight plan routes, fuel burns, and passenger comfort have been outstanding.”
