UK start-up Breeze Aviation is planning a network of charter and scheduled business helicopter flights from a new east London helipad, which opened last month.

The company last year acquired the former Ford factory's helipad in Dagenham, 20km (12 miles) east of London's City financial district, and started unlicensed operations last month. It plans to establish the helipad as the site for rotorcraft activity in and out of the Docklands as well as points east of the city. London has one heliport, Harrods Aviation's fixed-base operation in Battersea, but Breeze says it could upgrade the pad within a year to fully licensed status once traffic levels are sufficient. John Wollner, Breeze managing director, says: "We are not setting out to create a heliport, but obviously what we have here could lead to that."
