AVWEST GOES GLOBAL
Bombardier has sold four Global 7000 and two 8000 ultra-long-range jets to Australian business aviation services provider AVWest. The aircraft will join the Perth-based company's growing business aircraft fleet, which includes a Challenger 604, a Gulfstream IV-SP, a Cessna Caravan and three Global Express XRSs. The latest additions to the Global family are scheduled to enter service in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
EASY II APPROVED
Dassault has won US approval for its EASy II flightdeck less than two weeks after Europe gave its thumbs-up to the cockpit. EASy II offers synthetic vision systems, a flight management system and a runway access and advisory system. The first production Falcon 900LX with EASy II will be delivered in July, when the system will also be available for retrofit on the 900 family of large-cabin business jets.
AVIONICS CONTRACT
L-3 Communications has been awarded an avionics deal for the Skylander SK-105 utility aircraft as a subcontractor to the main cockpit systems supplier, Cobham Avionics. The New York-headquartered company will provide the traffic collision avoidance system, flight data and cockpit voice recorders, the digital flight data acquisition unit and the Stormscope weather mapping system. The equipment will be supplied through its aviation products division, a joint venture with Thales. The first flight for the 19-seat twin turboprop is planned for mid-2012, with type certification expected by the end of 2013.
FALCON FILMING
Le Bourget-based sister companies Aerovision and UniAir have modified a Dassault Falcon 50 business jet for aerial filming and photography. The system comprises a gyro-stabilised pod containing digital video and frame cameras that are connected to the recording and broadcast system in the cabin. The images can be broadcast live at high altitude and high speed, said Aerovision. The equipment can be easily removed to allow for passenger charter operations.
