The Civil Aviation Administration of China has given preliminary approval for a new carrier to be based at Hohhot Baita International airport.

Called Tianjiao Airlines, the proposed carrier will operate domestic and regional passenger and cargo services using Bombardier CRJ900s.

It will have a start-up capital of CNY3 billion, which will be fully-funded by state-owned enterprise Inner Mongolia Aviation Tourism Investment.

The carrier will be led by former Qingdao Airlines chairman Tang Huan Guang, and has employed eight captains and three first officers.

The regulator is calling for responses to the application by 2 March.
