Specialist freight operator Cargolux is to introduce services to two African cities, Lubumbashi and Douala.

Lubumbashi, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, will be served from 15 September while Douala – the largest city in Cameroon – will be included from 3 October.

Cargolux says it will fly from Luxembourg to Lubumbashi weekly, returning via Johannesburg, Nairobi and London Stansted.

The carrier will also operate weekly to Douala, via Bamako in Mali.

Lubumbashi is the second-largest city, and a hub for mining, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Cargolux, which has a fleet of Boeing 747-8Fs and 747-400Fs, already serves 33 destinations in Africa. The carrier says the continent "was and will always be" an important market for the airline.
