Airbus' latest backlog figures show that lessor CIT has cancelled orders for eight A320-family aircraft in favour of the four A330s newly-listed on the airframer's books.

CIT's orders had included 94 A320s and another 43 A319s last month but the latest Airbus data shows the lessor's backlog to have been reduced to 90 A320s and 39 A319s.

At the same time it has placed orders instead for four additional A330s - comprising three A330-200s and an A330-300.

Airbus has secured gross orders for 301 aircraft over the first eight months of this year, but has also listed 51 cancellations including 36 A320-family aircraft, eight A330s and seven A350s.
