Cork Airport will remain closed until at least 18:00 following this morning's crash of a Fairchild Metroliner operated by Manx2.

A spokeswoman for the Irish Aviation Authority says the current plan is to reopen the airport at 18:00, but it "may continue to be closed" beyond that time. A further evaluation will be made later today.

The aircraft, registered as EC-ITP, was operated by Manx2 but leased from Barcelona-based Flightline BCN.

It departed Belfast City Airport at 07:50 and was due to land at Cork at 09:00, says Manx2 in a statement. The aircraft crashed just before 10:00 on its third attempt at landing in fog.

Manx2 says it is "working with all relevant authorities to establish what happened".
