Belgian explosives specialists have safely dealt with a Second World War bomb discovered during work in the cargo zone of Brussels airport.
The bomb was discovered on 20 August but the military ordnance disposal wing Dienst voor Opruiming en Vernietiging van Ontploffingstuigen “dismantled” it during 21-22 August, without the need for detonation, says the airport’s operator.
It states that the bomb was found during works on apron 9, which is located in the north-west of the airport in the vicinity of the threshold for runway 07L.
While a 100m perimeter was established around the bomb, it adds, the ordnance team determined that there was “no danger” to passengers, personnel or operations.
