Updated European certification data has confirmed that the noise level of the CFM International Leap-1A engine is comparable to that of the rival Pratt & Whitney PW1100G.
The European Aviation Safety Agency type certificate data sheet for noise has been revised with the latest measurements following the authority's approval of the Leap-powered Airbus A321neo.
EASA gives a figure of 83.3dB for flyover noise – compared with 85.2dB for the PW1100G – for the current highest-weight version of the aircraft, with a maximum take-off weight of 93.5t.
It also lists the Leap-1A lateral and approach noise levels as 88.3dB and 94.7dB respectively, while the corresponding data for the PW1100G are 88.8dB and 94.5dB.
These noise levels, for both powerplants, are substantially lower than the figures listed by EASA for the older CFM56 and International Aero Engines V2500s on the baseline A321.
