Europe’s aerospace and defence manufacturers have assembled their own task force of industry experts to advise the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on how to safeguard the competitive position of European industry. EASA last month warned that it could be forced to impose fourfold increases in charges for some certification work and launched an urgent series of talks with the European Commission, European Union member states and industry on its future fees and charges structure. Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe chief Francois Gayet says that in a bid to help maintain the continuity of EASA’s certification activities it has established its own think tank “to engage directly” with the agency and that by presenting the industry’s “consolidated position” it hopes to come up with an acceptable alternative solution within two months.
