Lufthansa and EasyJet are among three parties to have submitted a renewed bid for Italian flag carrier Alitalia.

In a stock market update, the UK budget carrier says it has submitted an expression of interest for a "restructured Alitalia" which was consistent with its existing strategy in Italy.

"Given the nature of the process, the content of the expression of interest is subject to confidentiality," it adds.

Lufthansa says it has also made a fresh bid for the Rome-based carrier.

Alitalia said it received bids from three parties on 10 April adding that its commissioners will now examine the offers over the coming days.

EasyJet has formed a consortium with US equity fund Cerberus and Air France-KLM, FlightGlobal understands. Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore has named Wizz Air as the third bidder.

Wizz and Cerberus could not immediately be reached for comment.
