Israel's defence ministry has awarded Elbit Systems an approximately $90 million, 11-year contract to maintain the avionics on its air force fleet of Lockheed Martin F-16s. The arrangement will include the establishment of a new national maintenance centre, the company says.

"This method of service provides availability of the relevant systems while saving costs," says Elbit chief executive Bezhalel Machlis.

The Israeli air force has an active fleet of 288 F-16s across five variants, as recorded by Flightglobal's MiliCAS database.
