Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is to take delivery of its first Airbus A380 from the airframer’s Hamburg facility on 28 July.

The Dubai-based carrier has confirmed the date in a statement today, adding that it will receive five by March 2009.

Emirates has 58 A380s on order and is by far the largest single customer for the type.

Reservation data indicates it plans to begin commercial A380 services on 1 October between Dubai and New York JFK.

All five of the initial A380s for the airline will be configured in a 489-seat layout, with 14 first-class, 76 business-class and 399 economy-class seats.
