Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is to conduct its first Airbus A380 service to New York JFK on 1 August, two months earlier than originally planned.

Emirates is due to take delivery of its first example on 28 July, and the carrier’s timetable currently shows it will perform two return flights from Dubai to New York over the first week of August.

The carrier will operate the A380 as flights EK3801 and EK3802 on 1 August. A second connection will operate as EK3803 outbound to JFK on 3 August and EK3804 inbound on 6 August.

Operating the flight will allow Emirates to claim the first commercial A380 service to the Americas.

“We are confident that our customers travelling to and from North America will welcome the A380’s additional space and capacity, as well as our luxurious on-board amenities,” says Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum.

Emirates says the additional flights in August will supplement its regular New York operation – currently flown by Boeing 777-300ERs – before the A380 is deployed on one of the twice-daily services. The carrier has been planning to introduce daily A380 flights to JFK on 1 October.
