Middle Eastern carrier Emirates is to introduce the Airbus A380 to a new destination, Hong Kong, ahead of the winter season.

The operation will bring to 11 the total number of cities the Dubai-based carrier serves with the double-deck aircraft.

Emirates is to start using the A380 on the Hong Kong route on 1 October, flying daily via Bangkok. It currently operates twice-daily to the Asian hub, using Boeing 777s.

The carrier took delivery of another A380 earlier this month, serial number 46, giving it a fleet of 12 of the type. The carrier has another 78 on order.

Airbus has delivered 12 A380s in total this year. On the same day as the Emirates handover it also delivered a fourth, serial number 49, to Air France.
