Star Alliance carrier Ethiopian Airlines is to open services to Tokyo Narita towards the end of April.

The airline is to codeshare with Star partner All Nippon Airways on the route from Addis Ababa.

Ethiopian Airlines will operate thrice-weekly to Tokyo using Boeing 787-8s, the carrier states.

Services will commence on 20 April. Ethiopian chief Tewolde Gebremariam claims the route will be the only non-stop link from Africa to Japan.

He adds that the connection will play a “critical role” in cementing investment, trade and tourism links between the two.
