Trans States Holdings subsidiaries GoJet and Trans States Airlines are facing a proposed $2.5 million fine by the FAA for violating various maintenance procedures.
FAA's proposed penalty covers seven of GoJet's Bombardier CRJ700s and two Trans States Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft. The agency alleges each airline operated flights after maintenance was carried out incorrectly, and that the company failed to complete required record keeping.
Specific maintenance violations the FAA believes the carriers committed include using outdated manufacturer maintenance instructions to perform repairs, failure to document an inspection after an aircraft was damaged by severe turbulence, a failure to document and carry out proper repairs after aircraft warning systems identified problems and an improper repair of an engine oil leak.
FAA also alleges the carriers on one aircraft failed to connect a wing flap actuator to its torque tube, which rendered the flaps inoperable. The airlines also failed to comply with minimum equipment list regulations.
The agency's latest proposed fine against Trans States follows another $120,000 penalty FAA proposed levying on the carrier last month for operating flights more than 50nm from the shoreline without life preservers, life rafts, survival kits and other equipment required for extended overwater operations.
