US airframe component specialist Nordam has won a contract from Airbus to supply structural parts for the cargo floor on the stretched A350-1000.
Nordam says that it will manufacture carbon-composite crutches for the widebody twinjet and that the deal represents the company's first contract with Airbus for the supply of structural components.
Around 1,500 crutches a year will be produced over the life of the A350 programme, the Tulsa-based supplier expects. It adds that Nordam is one of two international composite specialists that have been licensed by carbon supplier Hexcel to produce parts through a compression-moulding process.
Nordam manufactures passenger windows for the A320-family and has previously been accredited by Airbus as a repair shop for a range of components, including flight control surfaces and interior parts.
