Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding for the purchase of 17 Airbus A350s, comprising 12 of the -1000 variant and five of the -900.
The deal was disclosed by Airbus at the Farnborough air show. The manufacturer notes that Starlux earlier this year selected Airbus jets for its single-aisle fleet, formulating a plan to lease 10 A321neos by year-end.
Airbus describes Taipei-based Starlux as a new full-service airline. It was founded by Chang Kuo-wei, former chairman of another Taiwanese carrier, EVA Air.
Starlux is to develop a network that includes long-haul North American services as well as intra-Asian routes.
Operations are to begin in early 2020, with the launch of long-haul services scheduled for early 2022.
