Lithuanian maintenance provider FL Technics is targeting operators of Boeing 737 Classics and Bombardier CRJ100/200 regional jets with a dedicated engine management service.

Legacy aircraft operators need "more creative solutions" than conventional MRO support aimed at maximising an engine's service life, argues FL Technics chief Zilvinas Lapinskas, citing on-wing repairs, replacement engines and leasing as elements of the required mix.

He sees an "exceptionally attractive" market for 737 Classics and CRJ100/200s in the CIS region, Middle East and Asia. "A lot of operators consider this fleet as a temporary solution before switching to a modern one," says Lapinskas.

Vilnius-based FL Technics estimates that the engine lease and repair market market relating to General Electric CF34-powered CRJ100/200s in the CIS region is worth around $120 million.

With several airlines in that region having ceased operations, 737 availability will create "attractive opportunities for niche players", adds the MRO provider.
