FLEET WATCH: Orders May 2010

Airliner net orders came in at 14 in May as 31 new orders were offset by 17 cancellations, with another 10 swaps.

Iberia and South African Airways both ordered five Airbus A320s while the finance company CIT Group ordered four Airbus A330s. Aircraft lessor AWAS placed an order for two A321s.

Airbus totalled 17 new orders in May while Boeing received five and Bombardier two.

In the widebody market, five A330s and four Boeing 777s orders were placed during the month. The narrowbody orders for the period were for 12 A320 family aircraft and a single Boeing 737. In the regional market, orders for two Bombardier CRJs were placed.

Overall, the order backlog for airliners ended May at 7,735, down 83 on the previous month.
