Republic Airways Holdings subsidiary Frontier Airlines has appointed John Bendoraitis as chief operating officer.

Bendoraitis has nearly 30 years of industry experience, having most recently served as president of Delta Connection carrier Comair since 2008.

At Comair, he led the reorganization of the airline's cost structure, reducing operating expenses by $80 million over the last two years, Frontier said in a statement.

"We're looking forward to putting him to work to help complete Frontier's transformation to an ultra-low-cost carrier," says David Siegel, president and chief executive officer of Frontier.

Bendoraitis starts at Frontier as the parent company is attempting to restructure it into an ultra-low cost carrier, and offer it for sale to other buyers. After the restructuring, Frontier is expected to compete against Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Airways.
