Germany has purchased two Northrop Grumman anti-missile systems for the Luftwaffe's Airbus A319CJ VIP aircraft for $26 million.
The two aircraft, which Germany uses for long-range VIP transport, were built in 2009 specifically for the German government, and are powered by International Aero Engines V2500 engines, according to Flightglobal's Ascend Online Fleets database.
The purchase was officially made by the US Air Force on Germany's behalf, as is common with foreign military sales.
The large aircraft infrared countermeasures equipment modifications will be made at Rolling Meadows, Illinois, and will be finished by 2016.
Though Germany faces few threats to its VIPs, the nation is an active NATO partner and has troops deployed to Afghanistan.
Neither Northrop, the USAF nor the Luftwaffe responded immediately to questions.
