Germany has joined the UK in suspending export credit for Airbus deliveries pending an enquiry into the manufacturer's use of third-party consultants.

Earlier this month, UK Export Finance revealed that it is not considering any new applications from Airbus for export credit after the manufacturer had itself flagged concerns relating to "historical use of overseas agents".

UKEF subsequently referred the matter to the Serious Fraud Office in London.

Now, Germany's federal office for economic affairs and energy says no guarantees will be given for new Airbus applications until "a full enquiry" by UK authorities has been completed.

That will take at least four weeks and likely more time, the ministry says.

Airbus's use of consultants is not being investigated by German authorities, but the ministry says a review has been started to check whether historical guarantees could be "affected" by the UK enquiry. The ministry adds that individual cases are not being assessed as part of the review.

Reports indicate that France has likewise suspended export credit for Airbus deliveries, but its economy ministry has yet to answer Flightglobal's request for comment.
