Uncertainty over the UK’s planned withdrawal from the European Union has not had any impact on IAG’s business, its chairman has told a capital markets event.

Antonio Vazquez says the ‘Brexit’ situation has “not affected the underlying trading environment”.

“We are confident we will be able to operate as normal beyond [the UK’s exit date],” he says. The UK is set to leave the EU at the end of March 2019.

Vazquez says the company has contingency plans in place should the withdrawal occur without a post-Brexit agreement in place between the UK and EU.

He says the company, as a result of its engagement with relevant authorities, “remains confident” that a comprehensive air transport pact will be agreed by the two sides.
