IATA is putting $2 million into creating the Partnership for Safety Programme, which will initially be rolled out in Africa, aimed at assisting airlines in developing nations with training and pre-audit assessments as they prepare for the IATA Operational Safety Audit, the global standard for safety management. Although 2004 was the safest on record for the industry as a whole, IATA is concerned that the rate of accidents in Africa is disproportionately high.
