The Oneworld alliance is expected to announce this morning that Malaysia Airlines has formally applied to join the group.
Malaysia's flag carrier would follow India's Kingfisher Airlines and Germany's Air Berlin, who are expected to join in 2011 and 2012, as the latest members of the alliance.
MAS had been considering the SkyTeam Alliance as well, but its decision means that Oneworld would finally have a Southeast Asian carrier in its ranks.
