IAG has transferred Aer Lingus orders for four Airbus A350-900s to Spanish flag-carrier Iberia.

Aer Lingus had originally ordered six A350s in April 2008, and increased this to nine of the type through a swap of three A330s.

But the Irish carrier, which was originally due to receive the A350s from 2014, has deferred deliveries of the twinjets.

Towards the end of last year Aer Lingus indicated that its future fleet strategy involved acquisition of additional A330s. The airline has been studying the A330neo.

Analysis of Airbus’s latest orders backlog data, covering the first quarter of this year, shows that IAG has shifted four of Aer Lingus’ nine A350s to Iberia.

Aer Lingus, as a result, is left with orders for five A350s while Iberia’s overall commitment rises to 20 of the type, of which three have been delivered to the Spanish carrier.
