International Launch Services (ILS) is to launch the MEXSAT-1 satellite on an ILS Proton for the Mexican government’s Ministry of Communications and Transportation, the Secretaria de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT). The 5,800kg satellite is under construction by Boeing Satellite Systems and will use the Boeing 702HP bus design. 

It is currently planned to launch the satellite in 2013 or 2014 from the Baikonour launch site near Tyuratam in Kazakhstan. The satellite is equipped with a 22 metre diameter L-band reflector for the provision of mobile communications and a 2 meter Ku-band antenna for fixed satellite services. The spacecrafs designed for an operational life of 15 years at the Geostatonary Earth Orbit (GEO) location of 113 degrees West.
