India will proceed to build two greenfield airports and also expand and improve the infrastructure at three existing gateways.

The greenfield airports will be located at Bhiwadi district in Rajasthan state and at Bhogapuram in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Site clearance was granted in November 2015 and January this year for the two airports, respectively.

No further information was provided on the expected capacity or runway length.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has also committed to upgrade the facilities at three airports in the state of Tamil Nadu.

At Chennai airport, it will resurface the runway and develop the area around the airport's train station at a cost of Rs446 million ($720,000).

The apron at Coimbatore airport will get two more parking bays and a new airside corridor that will be integrated with the passenger terminal building, at a cost of Rs90.5 million.

The operator will also resurface the runway, taxiway and strengthen the apron at Tuticorin airport at Rs48 million.

No timelines were given on when the improvement works will be completed.

In addition, the AAI has started the installation of a Centralised Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) system at six metro airports.

Valued at Rs1.07 billion, the system is being installed at Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru airports.

The system will help to regulate air traffic to prevent exceeding air traffic control or airport handling traffic, and to ensure efficient usage of available capacity.
