The historic ultra-long-range service launched by Qantas this week, which is the first regular nonstop connection between Australia and the UK, is one of the longest air routes currently in operation.

A number of airlines are using the latest Airbus and Boeing ultra-long-range widebodies to connect increasingly far-apart city-pairs with direct flights. FlightGlobal data shows that Qantas's new daily return Boeing 787-9 service between Perth and London Heathrow is the second-longest nonstop route serving the Asia-Pacific region.

This infographic created using FlightGlobal data identifies the 13 nonstop services currently operating to or from Asia-Pacific, with a great-circle distance in excess of 7,000nm (12,950km). It reveals that the longest route currently is the 7,847nm sector operated by Qatar Airways between Doha and Auckland using a Boeing 777-200LR.

As the infographic illustrates, along with the Boeing twinjets, the Airbus A350 and A380 also feature on these ultra-long-haul missions serving Asia-Pacific destinations.
