In-flight entertainment (IFE) system manufacturers will be strongly impacted for months to come by the effect on suppliers of last month's 9.0-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan.

Speaking at a panel discussion during the show yesterday, Lumexis chief executive Doug Cline said that "most IFE manufacturers have supplies coming from Japan, many from the Sendai region [which bore the brunt of the tsunami's impact]".

Manufacturers are going to see "a serious impact for the next several months" because factories, while "not destroyed", have been "knocked out of calibration", adds Cline.

B/E Aerospace has "some tentative concerns with IFE-related components" coming from Japan, says the company's vice-president and general manager seating product Tom Plant.
