Israeli air force preparing new UAV roadmap

The Israeli air force is working on a master plan that will determine the shape of its unmanned air vehicle squadrons for the next 15 years.

The service's current units are accumulating a record number of flight hours with UAVs, and the number of systems in use is growing.

Increased demand and an operational requirement for additional designs and sensors has prompted the air force to prepare a future development programme that will outline its expected needs and options to meet them.

The work is based on elements including the development efforts of Israeli UAV manufacturers, which present their future designs to the air force in an effort to meet the nation's projected operational requirements.

One issue that will be covered by the long-term plan is the integration of a growing number of multi-rotor UAVs across Israel's defence forces. The air force notes that such systems will need to be operated in full co-ordination with manned platforms and other unmanned assets.
